Broward County Sheriff Al Lamberti held a news conference Wednesday after a fatal police-involved shooting in Pompano Beach.

Officers fatally shot Johnny Wright, 23, in an undercover weapons investigation Tuesday afternoon at 1211 NW 23rd Ave.

BSO said Wright was trying to sell three guns to undercover officers. Police believe he had the guns illegally and said he was not a licensed dealer.

Investigators do not believe Wright had any intention of handing over the weapons, and that he meant for it to be a robbery.

"We brought the money. They counted the money. At that time, the second suspect came in with a firearm, pointed a rifle at the deputy, and the rip-off is they were just going to grab the money, had no intentions of releasing the firearms to us," Lamberti said.

When the suspects pulled weapons, police said, a plainclothes deputy started shooting. More officers were keeping an eye on the incident from a distance, and one of those officers fired shots, as well.

Police said the officers fired 15 rounds, killing Wright.

Two other suspects, Jean Marcel Coulanges, 18, and Elvence St. Aulien, 19, were arrested. Coulanges and St. Aulien are charged with first-degree murder because Wright was killed in the commission of a felony.

BSO said it believes the suspects could be behind a number of home invasions in Coral Springs.
